Abstract

Welding is an integral part of the growth of industry improvement as it holds a major role in engineering and repair of metal production. It is virtually impossible to build a factory without involving welding elements. The purpose of research is to know the effect of welding GTAW and SMAW against the hardness and tensile strength Supt Engine mounting Bego part number KRH11000-C. This research uses experimental methods. The tools used in this research are tensile testing machine, hardness testing machine, welding equipment, ruler and sandpaper or Grenda. While the material making specimen is a plate material SS400 using welding SMAW and GTAW with the electrode RD-2.6 and wire rolls ER 70 S size 2.4. The specimen formation corresponds to Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) and puree the specimen. Methods of collecting data by: observation, interviews, experiments and library studies. Result of this research, testing of material composition showed a metal content of 99.1% which means this SS400 material including metals... As for the hardness test use Brinell calculation (HB). Analysis of welding results between SMAW and GTAW against the hardness of welding SMAW, GTAW SS400 for specimens SMAW suffered a hardness increase at welding point (weld metal) of 194kg/〖mm〗^2 and the lowest value of GTAW by 194 kg/〖mm〗^2, for the HAZ area (head affaect Zone) las GTAW increase by 186kg/〖mm〗^2compared to SMAW amounting to 176kg/〖mm〗^2, for the highest base metal in Las SMAW of 167kg/〖mm〗^2, compared with GTAW of 167kg/〖mm〗^2. At the highest welding point SMAW was undergoing structural changes on the plate. Analysis of welding results between SMAW and GTAW the result of tensile strength on the welding of SMAW and GTAW SS400 for the specimen SMAW of its attractiveness strength 376,88 〖N/mm〗^2, GTAW its tensile strength is 334,42 〖N/mm〗^2, where the result of the average tensile strength in the highest pull test is SMAW, because there is no plastic deformation, so that there is no strong yield and when the tensile is tested on the flat-end of the weld area.
