Abstract

AFIDAH UMAMAH.2019.1613500090.The Effect of Using Contextual Teaching and Learning Strategy on Students’ Reading Achievement for Eight Grade Students of Junior High Scholl (An Experimental Research of the Eight Grade Students of Junior High School at MTs maarif nu 12 bulakparent in Academic Year of 2018/2019).Research Project.Strata 1 Program.English Department,Teacher Training and Education Faculty,Pancasakti University Tegal ,The First Advisor is Dr.Taufiqulloh,M.Hum.The Second Advisor is Yulia Nur Ekawati,M.Pd Keywords:contextual teaching and learning strategy,reading ,achievement There are some problems appeared in teaching reading.The problems happen because the English material is not interesting for students ,the limited time and equipment,the technique of delivering materials is not suitable or interesting .Contextual Teaching and Learning Strategy gives the students new way to get learning material. The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using Contextual Teaching and Learning strategy on student’s reading achievement for Eight Grade Students of Junior High School at MTs Maarif NU 12 Bulakparent in Academic Year of 2018/2019.The research hypothesis is the use Contextual teachng and learning Method gives a positive effect on students’ reading achievement. This research is Experimental study.In conducting the research,.the writer used two group design.Population of this research was 88 students of the second grade of Mts Maarif NU 12 Bulakparent.The cluster random sampling technique was used to take the sample.The sample consisted of 60 students’ that was divided into two groups.Sample 1 as group 1 consisted of 28 students who were taught by using Contextual Teaching and Learning Strategy and sample 2 as group 2 as group 2 consisted of 30 students who were not taught by using contextual teaching and learning .Instrument used in this research,.multiple choices test consisty of 40 items. Based on the result of data analysis,the score of t-table at 5% level of significances was 2.043.While t-rasio was 2,089.So,t-ratio was higher than t-table (2,089>2,043).According to this calculation,the research hypothesis of this research was accepted.It means that there was significant difference in reading achievement betwen the students who were taught by using Contextual Teaching and Learning . The conclusion of this research was students who are taught by using Contextual Teaching and Learning got better achievement than those who were not taught by Contextual Teaching and Learning.Therefore,it is suggested that Consistent in writing Contextual Teaching and Learning strategy.
