Abstract

Dhany Sahdeini Hari, 2020. “Effect of addition of magnesium (mg) to mechanical properties of A1110 aluminum casting in motorcycle brake handle applications”. Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Engineering, Pancasakti University Tegal. The purpose of this study was to determine the strength of mechanical properties in aluminum casting 1100 combined with magnesium (Mg) on impact strength, bending strength, and hardness value. The research method used in this study is the experimental in this of aluminum plate casting (1100) combined with magnesium ingot using stir casting process with a rotating speed of 280rpm for 5 minutes, melting temperature of 720 0C, pouring temperature of 700 0C, and mold used using sand molds Sand casting is then tested for bending strength, charpy impact, and brinell hardness using the JIS standar. Results of impact test alloy magnesium (2% , 6%, and 8%) respectively the presentage of Mg increases the impact strength, wherein the 6% magnesium alloy has the highest impact strength that is 0,115 J/mm2, and in the raw material A1100 has the impact stength of 0,062 J/mm2. While the bending test results of the raw material A1100 has the highest flexural stregth of 206,35 N/mm2, magnesium alloy (2%) is 127,52 N/mm2, magnesium alloy (6%) is 108,17 N/mm2, and magnesium alloy (8%) 116,25 N/mm2. While results of hardness test alloy magnesium (2%, 6%, and 8%) respectively the presentage of Mg increases the hardness value, whereas in magnesium alloy 8% has the highest hardness value of 143,43 HB, and in the raw material brake handle has a hardness value of 95,93 HB.
