Pradjarto, M.Pd., Second Advisor Yulia Nur Ekawati, M.Pd. Keywords: Grammatical errors, Descriptive Qualitative Research, The Most Common Types and Common Errors of Grammatical Errors. The aim of this study was to find out the most common types of grammatical errors used by students’ writing activities at eleventh grade of SMA N 3 Brebes. Writing skill not only need a lot of vocabulary in composing a paragraph, but also correct grammars, apart from other writing’s rules, in order to be comprehensible. Therefore, composing a paragraph in writing activity takes a lot of times. This was descriptive research, the research employing documentation to collect data and the researcher used descriptive method to describe students’ grammatical errors in writing activities. The subject of this study was eleventh grade of SMA N 3 Brebes. They were consisted of 30 students as the subject of the research. In collecting data, the reseracher gave students a topic of “Experience”. The writing should consist of 150 words. The result of analysis shows that (1) The most common types of grammatical errors made by the students in writing activity were simple past tense (41,8%) and prepositions was (33,2%). For each class, it describes students writing activity were XI IPS 1: simple past tense (35,2%) and preposition (29,4%) and for XI IPS 2: simple past tense (45,4%) and preposition 36,3%), lastly for XI IPS 3: simple past tense (50%) and preposition or present perfect tense (25%). Based on these findings, it can be concluded that most students of SMA 3 Brebes got wrong in past tense and preposition. The students had some difficulties in applying English grammar rules in their writings. Therefore, it is suggested for the teacher and the students to be aware and pay more attention to the errors in order to improve the English teaching and learning process.
