Abstract

AS’AD, MUHAMMAD FAISAL. 2022. 1617500014. “The Effect of Using Project Based Learning Toward The 7th Grade Students’ Reading Skill on Descriptive Text in SMP N 2 Balapulang”. Research Project. Strata 1 Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pancaakti University Tegal, The First Advisor is Drs. Masfuad Edy Santoso, M.Pd and The Second Advisor is Anin Eka Sulistyawati, SS, M.Hum. Keywords : Project-Based Learning, Reading for Junior High School, Descriptive Text. The objectives of this research are to find out the implementation of Project-Based Learning and the effect of using Project-Based Learning in reading skill towards VII grade students in SMP N 2 Balapulang. The data was taken from the 7th grade students of SMP N 2 Balapulang with the totally 284 students for the population. Researcher takes two classes for the research with the average number of students are 32 students. The total of sample is 64 which separated into two group. The first group is experimental group and the other is control group. In this research one class used Project-Based Learning (Experiment) and another group used Discovery Learning, Problem Based Learning, and Blended Learning (Curriculum 13 Learning Method). The instruments that used in this research are checklist and post-test. Based on the checklist instrument the Implementation of PBL has success. This statement based on the result of checklist instrument show that average of the items is 4. The second instrument is post-test. This instrument used to find out the effect of using PBL to 7th grade students in reading skill. Researcher used Mann-Whitney to analysing the Post-Test data. The result is the value of Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) is 0.000. It can conclude that alternative hypothesis (H1) accepted. If Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) > 0.05 null hypothesis (H0) accepted but if Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05 alternative hypothesis (H1) accepted. The conclusion of this result, there is significant effect between use of PBL on students reading skills. And the last for Head Master and English teachers of SMP N 2 Balapulang, researcher hopes that this research can suggest and give other policies to further explore the potential use of technology for the growth of education, the other suggestion is to upgrade online literacy media by allowing to carrying smartphones to be used to access information related to learning process.
