Abstract

Octaviani, Tri Nur Indah. 2022. 1618500058 : “The Use Of Discovery Learning Model And Its Implication To Students’ Speaking Ability”. Research project. Strata I program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pancasakti University Tegal, The First Advisor Dr.Taufiqulloh M.Hum. and Second Advisor Anin Eka Sulistyawati, S.S,M.Hum. Keywords : Discovery Learning Model, Speaking Ability, Descriptive Text The objectives of this research were (1) To find out the implication of Discovery Learning Model on students’ speaking ability in grade seventh SMP N 1 Tegal. (2) To find out whether or not there is a significant difference between students who study using the Discovery Learning Model ad those who don’t in grade seventh SMP N 1 Tegal. In this research, the population is the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Kota Tegal, which is a total 251 students. The writer uses cluster random sampling with two group designs (experimental group and control group). The total sample is 63 students, 31 students are as experimental group and 32 students are as a control group. The experimental group is the group of students who are taught by using Discovery Learning Model. The control group is the group of students who are taught without using Discovery Learning Model. After teaching for eight meetings, the writer gives a speaking test to the experimental group and control group. The writer analyzed data by using t-test formula on SPSS 26 program. The result t-test divided into two : First, the result of Paired Sample T-Test in the experimental group shows that sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.000 < 0.05. it means the use of the Discovery Learning Model gives a positive effect on students’ speaking ability. Second, the result of the independent Sample T-Test shows that sig. (2- tailed) value is 0.000<0.05. it means there is a significant difference in speaking scores between students who are taught by using Discovery Learning Model and those who are taught without using Discovery Learning Model. Based on the result of this research, the writer suggest to English teachers as teaching speaking to improve the students’ speaking ability.
