Abstract

VII ABSTRACT ZULLA, VALDO VARELLEO. 2022, 1619500066. "Student Perception of Visual Novel Games as an Alternative English Reading Comprehension Improvement (Case Study at SMPN 4 Adiwerna Tegal in the academic year 2022/2023)". Research Project. Strata 1 Program, English Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Pancasakti Tegal University, First Advisor is Yuvita, M.Pd and the Second Advisor is Nur Aflahatun, M.Pd.. Keywords: Student perception, visual novels, reading comprehension. The objective of this research is to explore student perceptions about the use of visual novel games in increasing their comprehension of English readings and to find out about their knowledge of visual novel games for SMPN Adiwerna. This Research used qualitative method. The subject of the research are 30 students and a teacher of SMPN 4 Adiwerna. In collecting data from respondents, the writer chose the closed questionnaire. The closed questionnaire contains of questions and followed by pre-determined options. Besides using questionnaire, the writer also used interview. The result of this research is student’s perception of Visual Novel as Alternative for English reading comprehension improvement can be concluded as “positive” because after the writer conducted the research, the students' answers of using Visual Novel as Alternative to improve English Reading Comprehension are positive. The writer suggested that EFL teacher should take an action of teaching English to young generation in an interesting way, for example through Visual Novel which can be used inside the class and focused on reading along with the vocabulary and for future researchers, the writer hopes that this research can be a future reference.
