Abstract

NUR HISYAM, MUHAMMAD PARSTA. 2023. 1616500029 “An Analysis On Student’s Grammatical In Writing A Descriptive Text (A Descriptive Study at The Second Semester English Education Program of Universitas Pancasakti Tegal)”. Research Project. Strata I Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Pancasakti Tegal, The First advisor is Yuvita M.Pd and The Second Advisor is Nur Aflahatun, M.Pd. Key words: Descriptive Text, Grammatical Errors, An Analysis The main objective of this study was to know the students’ grammatical error in writing a descriptive text at The Second Semester of English Education Program of Universitas Pancasakti Tegal. The research design was qualitative of the descriptive analysis. The sample consist of 17 students of Second Semester English Education Program. The result shows that there were found four types of error namely; omission, addition, misinformation and disordering. The first error rate totals 63% for error of ommision, the second error rate for error of addition totals 19 %, the third error error of misinformation totals 13%, and the fourth error rate for error of misordering totals 5%. By using the classification of grammatical errors, it can be determined that each student made an error in selecting or identifying the category of verb tense by 22%, singular/plural by 18%, pronoun by 14%, adverb & adjective by 13%, conjunction by 10%, article by 9%, To be by 2%, and demonstrative adjective by 1%. In conclusion, in analysis of the students’ grammatical errors in writing a descriptive text found that students have difficulties there were lexical difficulties due to lack of vocabulary mastery. The difficulties in adjusting lexical meaning, grammatical difficulties relate to reported speech usage, perfect tenses usage, relative pronoun usage and etc. contextual difficulties relate to the lack of students to make relationship between writing and the situation at the time the text is used. Cultural difficulties relate to the lack of background knowledge about cultural aspects both of the languages.
