H.Rofiudin, M.Hum Kata kunci: Speaking, Students Difficulties, Non English Department. Speaking ability is seen as the most important skill for students, but in reality there are still many students who do not master speaking, especially students who have difficulty understanding spoken English words and phrases. the difficulties faced by students are influenced by non-linguistic and linguistic factors. This study aims to determine the non-linguistic and linguistic factors that affect difficulties in speaking English. This research is a qualitative research with case study analyses. This study used a qualitative descriptive research design. The research subjects were fourth and sixth semester students in the Economics Education Study Program. The type of data that is used to analyze in this study is qualitative data. The data collection technique used by researchers in this study was a questionnaire. researchers used a questionnaire as an instrument. The questionnaire aims to determine the problems faced by non-English students in learning to speak English. The results of the study found that there were 2 causes of difficulty speaking, namely non-linguistic factors, there were 5 criteria, namely fear of mistakes, as many as 29 students said they felt afraid of making mistakes in speaking, shyness, there were 27 students who agreed that embarrassment made them difficult, then anxiety around 27 students had a sense of anxiety in speaking, then lack of confidence there are 25 students who lack confidence, the last 13 students lack motivation. the second factor is the linguistics factor consisting of lack of vocabulary, lack of grammar mastery, pronunciation. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that fear of mistakes, embarrassment, anxiety are the main causes of difficulties faced by students in non-linguistic factors. lack of confidence, lack of motivation is a small cause that they experience in learning to speak English.On the linguistic factor, it was found that lack of vocabulary and lack of mastery of grammar were the main factors of linguistics and pronunciation was a supporting factor.
