Abstract

Nabilah, Myfti. 2023. 1619500001: “The Implementation of Standford’s Civic Online Reasoning Assessment to Assess EFL Students’ Digital Literacy”. Research Project. Bachelor’s program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Pancasakti Tegal. First Advisor : Yuvita, M.Pd. Second Advisor : Noeris Meristiani, M.Pd. Key Words: Digital Literacy, Evaluating Website Information, Navigating Internet Search The purpose of this study is to know EFL students’ digital literacy level using Standford’s Civic Online Reasoning (COR) assessment and to analyze how they do the assessments. The type of this research is case study which used descriptive qualitative method. The participants for this research were 22 fourth-semester students of English Education Department, Universitas Pancasakti Tegal. In collecting the data, the researcher used Standford’s Civic Online Reasoning assessments and interview to create a strength analysis and proper research. After collecting the data, the researcher analyzed EFL students’ digital literacy levels asseseed using Standford’s COR and the strategies which done by them The findings of this research revealed that EFL student’s level still shows no good sign. Furthermore, present research has also provided profound finding on students’ competence in their digital literacy, especially in information and data literacy area which needed to be improved in order to have digital literate students, not only in technical use but also in navigating themselves on the online information searching. As a continuum from this research, the researcher suggests future research to put into practice or adapt Standford’s History Education Group (SHEG) Civic Online Reasoning lessons which available on their platform into the classroom with a more advanced level English proficiency from the EFL students, then investigate whether the lessons can help improving student’s level or not. On this basis, the changing of research methodology is also needed. Therefore, the researcher also suggests future research to use quantitative method in order to have relevant and more precise results.
