Abstract
Sari, Risa Meilina 2024. 1619500007 : The Effect of Collaborative Writing for Skills Writing Improvement in XI Grade of SMA Al-Irsyad Tegal in the Academic Year 2023/2024. Research Project Strata I Program. English Department. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Pancasakti University Tegal, The First Advisor is Endang Sulistianingsih, M.Pd, and The Second Advisor is Ihda Rosdiana, S.Pd., M.Hum. Keyword : Writing, Descriptive Text, Collaborative writing The objectives of this research are 1) To find out the effect of using collaborative writing for writing skills improvement. 2) To find out if there are any significant differences between the students who are taught using collaborative writing strategy and students who are not taught using collaborative writing strategy. 3) find out the student responses after using collaborative writing strategy in writing class. The research hypothesis is a significant effect of using Collaborative writing on students' writing skills in descriptive text. In this research, the population is the eleventh-grade students of SMA Al-Irsyad Tegal, which is 169 students. The researcher uses purposive sampling with two group designs. The total sample is 64 students, from the experimental and control group. The experimental group employed collaborative writing as a strategy with descriptive text as the material. While the control group was employed without using collaborative writing. After teaching for eight meetings, the researcher gave a writing test to the experimental and control group. The result of the test revealed that the experimental group had improved their writing ability more than the control group, this is evidenced by the mean value of the experimental group post-test 85.00 higher than the mean value of the control group 80.31. The Paired T-test was used revealing that the two-tailed significance level is 0.000<0.05. It shows that the post-test means of the experimental and control groups are statistically different. In addition, the majority of the students agree that collaborative writing helps to improve students' writing skills. In conclusion, teaching writing descriptive using collaborative writing has a positive effect on students' writing skills.
