Abstract

This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills after the application of the IDEA learning model and the cooperative model, to see the effectiveness of the IDEA learning model and the cooperative model in improving students' critical thinking skills, and to see the students' responses in applying the IDEA and cooperative models. This research is a quasi-experimental research. The population of this study were students of class VII in one of the state junior high schools in Brebes Regency in the ten-class 2019/2020 school year. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Data was taken using a test sheet and questionnaire sheet. Data were analyzed using the independent sample t-test and n-gain score test. The results showed that the increase in students' critical thinking skills after the application of the IDEA model was better than the cooperative model. This can be seen in the application of the IDEA model reaching an average pre-test of 39.67 and post-test an average of 73.67. Whereas in the cooperative model, the pre-test average was 38.83 and the post-test average was 62.06. The effectiveness level of the IDEA learning model is in the quite effective category compared to the cooperative class, this can be seen by the acquisition of an N-G value of 56.96%. Meanwhile, the cooperative model class is in the ineffective category, with an N-Gain value of 37.88%. The response of students in the IDEA model class is better than the cooperative model class. This can be seen from the average value of the questionnaire value in the IDEA class with an average value of 76.06. Meanwhile, the cooperative model class obtained an average questionnaire value of 75.48.
