Abstract

The purpose of this study is (1) Knowing the initial conditions of critical thinking skills and pro-environment of the students. (2) Knowing the increase in students' critical thinking skills and pro-environment. (3) Knowing students' responses after learning science with the JAS AVIAL approach. The population in this study were grade VII students of SMP Negeri 5 Brebes in the academic year 2019/2020 consisting of 9 classes and totaling 265. The sampling technique in this study used purposive sampling. Subject for research is class VII B as an experimental class and VII C as a control class the research instruments used were test questions, pro-environment questionnaires, lesson plans, LKPD, and learning response questionnaires. Analyze in this research use paired sample t-test and test n-gain. The results of the study concluded that (1) The initial conditions of critical thinking skills in the medium category with number 47,81 and pro-environment in the good category with number 64,52. (2) Increased critical thinking skills in the medium category with n-gain number 0,6075 and pro-environment in the low category with n-gain number 0,275. (3) StudentFs' responses after applying science learning with JAS AVIAL approach get a positive response.
