Abstract

Key words: Learning Style , Learning Strategies , Gender Learning styles and learning strategy are very useful for facilitate the process of learning English. There are 6 types of learning styles that are commonly used by students, those are: Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, Tactile, Group, and Individual. And there are 6 types of learning strategies that are often used by students, for example such as: Recalling Strategies, Cognitive Strategies, Compensation Strategies, Metacognitive Strategies, Affective Strategies, and Social Strategies. This study aims to find out and explain the learning styles and learning strategies carried out by male and female students in fourth semester of the English Language Study Program at Pancasakti University, Tegal. This study uses Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire (PLSPQ) by Reid to identify students learning style and for Strategy Inventory Language Learning (SILL) by Rebecca Oxford to identify students learning strategy. The learning styles of the fourth semester female and male students of the English education study program are more likely to be kinesthetic learning styles. Because the average frequency ranking of kinesthetic learning styles in women is higher, namely 2.72. And followed by Tactile, Audio, Individual, and finally Visual learning styles. Likewise, men have the highest ranking on the average frequency of the kinesthetic learning style, namely 2.50. And followed by Tactile, Auditory, Visual, Group, and finally Individual learning styles. And the learning strategies between male and female students turned out to have differences in the highest average frequency. Female students have a Metacognitive learning strategy with the highest average frequency of 2.45. And followed by social, memory, compensation, cognitive, affective learning strategies. Meanwhile, male students have the highest ranking on the Social learning strategy which has an average of 2.28. And followed by Compensation, Metacognitive, Memories, Affective, and finally Cognitive learning styles.
