Abstract

NUR LINTANG ARUMSARI. 2023. 1618500019: "An Analysis of Students' Anxiety in Speaking English at the Twelfth Graders of SMK N 2 Tegal in the Academic Year 2021/2022". Research project. Strata 1 Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pancasakti University Tegal. The First Advisor is Dr. Taufiqullah, M. Hum, and the Second Advisor is Nur Laila Molla, S.Pd., M. Hum. Keywords: Speaking English anxiety, factor of student anxiety in speaking English, strategies to overcome students’ anxiety in speaking English. This study aiming investigating the factors of students’ anxiety in speaking English and also to identifying the strategies of how students to overcome their anxiety in English speaking learning classroom. Anxiety is a condition that may arise at any time when someone feels panicked, insecure, worried, or fearful of making errors.This current study, the researcher applies the qualitative research method as the approach of the research project. The participants of this research was the 12thgrade high school students of SMKN 2 Tegal in the academic year 2021/2022. The researcher used OTKP 3 class that consist of 33 students to collect the data. To collect the data, the researcher employed a questionnaire method. The questionnaire adopted from the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale that was carried out to investigated factor of anxiety and strategies of how students to overcome their anxiety in English speaking learning classroom. Based on the result of Factor Analysis through SPSS program, the researcher found that there were two factors that were created to be the most factor of influencing students’ anxiety in Speaking English. The first factor that most influence students’ anxiety in speaking English is grammatical mistakes and the second factor is inadequate planning. While, based on the data analysis, it was also found that the percentage of the questionnaire of students' strategy to overcoming anxiety in speaking English was 80% students agree in peer seeking strategy, 68% students agree in positive thinking strategy,and 70% students agree in resignation strategy. All of those percentage of the questionnaireswas categorized as good.
