Saputra, Faisal Ade. 2023. 1616500015: “Listening Comprehension Difficulties Faced by English Foreign Language Students(A Surveys Research at SMA N 2 Brebes in the Academic Year Of 2020/2021)”.Research project. Strata 1 Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pancasakti University Tegal. The First Advisor is Drs. H, Rofiudin, M.Hum, and The Second Advisor is Anin Eka S, SS, M.Hum. Keywords: listening comprehension difficulties, English Foreign Language, EFL Students. The objectives of this researchare to find out the listening comprehension difficulties faced by the 11th Graders at SMA N 2 Brebes in the Academic Year of 2020/2021and also to investigatestudents' perceptionof listening comprehension.Listening difficulties are defined as the internal and external characteristics that might interrupt text understanding and real-life processing problems directly related to cognitive procedures that take place at various stages of listening comprehension The subject of this study was 50 participants of the 11th Graders at SMA N 2 Brebes in the Academic Year of 2020/2021.This study employs the qualitative method which was analyzed from the questionnaire and the open-ended question data.To collect the data, Observation Checklist was used to know how students’ learning process during listening comprehension.To obtain the data regarding participants' difficulties in listening comprehension – a closed-ended questionnaire was employed as a research instrument.Following the first instrument, to obtain qualitative data the researcher conducts two Open-Ended Questions transcribed from interviews. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS version 22 to be calculated into a mean score and percentage, and the result ispresented in a table.Last, the percentage of each item was analyzed qualitatively by explaining the result of each indicator in one item.For the open-ended questions, all students' answers were analyzed qualitatively and explained. The findings show many various problemsthey faced in listening comprehension(e.g., unknown words and long spoken text; lack of concentration encountered with long listening text and problem predicting what would come next during listening; pronunciation; the presence of hesitation and pauses on the part of the speaker, speaker's unclear pronunciation). Then the writer suggests to English teachers be aware of the sources of listening comprehension problems. They need to first identify the problems and then find solutions to them.
