Abstract

Febbyanti, Erda A. 2023. 1618500003: “Teachers’ Perception on Problem-Based Learning Strategies Applied in Teaching English”. Research Project. Strata 1 Program, Faculty of Teachers Training and Education, Pancasakti University Tegal. The First Advisor is Noeris Meiristiani, M.Pd and The second Advisor is Ihda Rosdiana, M.Hum. Key words: Teachers’ Perception, Problem-Based Learning, Teaching English. The purpose of this study is to find out about the implementation of problem- based learning strategies in the classroom and the challenges that teachers face when implementing problem-based learning in the classroom. The subjects of this research were 3 English teachers of grades VII, VIII, and IX in SMP N 4 Taman. This research used qualitative methods, and the instruments were questionnaires and interviews. The results of this research show that: (1) The implementation of problem-based learning in teaching English in SMP N 4 Taman has been implemented based on the phases of problem-based learning strategies; and (2) The obstacles faced by English teachers during the implementation of problem-based learning are the teachers' difficulty in determining the problem, which is related to students’ characteristics, and their difficulty in implementing problem-based learning in the classroom. This study suggests that English teachers should be creative in designing the problem in problem-based learning. As a result, students are more engaged in the learning process
