Abstract

Melliana, Syifa 2023. 1619500045: “The Effect of Using Two Stay Two Stray Technique with Hello English Application on Students’ Speaking Skill (An Experimental Research at Seventh Grade Students of SMP N 1 Tegal in Academic Year of 2022/2023)”. Reseacrh Project. Strata 1 Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pancasakti University Tegal. The first Advisor is Yuvita, M.Pd. and the second advisor is Anin Eka Sulistyawati, S.S., M.Hum. Keywords: Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS), Hello English, Speaking Skill. The objectives of this research are 1) to describe the implementation of Two Stay Two Stray with Hello English Application in teaching speaking, and 2) to find out whether or not there is a significant effect of applying Two Stay Two Stray with Hello English Application on students’ speaking skills. This research was conducted through an experimental approach with a quasi-experimental design. The population is 256 students in the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Tegal. The samples are 32 students in the experimental group and 32 students in the control group. The researcher used purposive sampling with two categories: the experimental group who were taught using TSTS with Hello English app, and the control group who were taught without. The data collecting technique consists of a pretest and posttest with a speaking test and observation checklist instrument. SPSS 22 program was used to analyze the data. The result of the average score of the posttest experimental group is higher than the control group (60,42 > 53,02). The result of Paired Samples T-Test showing sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.000 < 0,05, in line with the result of Independent Sample T-Test. It means there is a significant effect on students’ speaking skills in the experimental group than in the control group. Thus, TSTS with Hello English app is effective for students’ speaking skills. Furthermore, the writer suggests: 1) The English teachers should use an appropriate media in teaching-learning process to enhance students’ interest in learning English, and 2) Further research should try and develop the use of TSTS with Hello English app in teaching other English skills.
