Keywords:Plagiarism, Turnitin,DetectionService,AcademicWriting A specific case of misconduct, namely plagiarism has seen significantincreaseinthelastdecades.Assuch,universitiesandcollegesnowadaysincludingthe ones in Tegal City have established new stricter rules which involve the usageof electronic plagiarism detection services such as Turnitin to minimize plagiarismoccurrence in their environments. In order to get insight about this phenomenon ofplagiarism in the area of Tegal City prior to the establishment of those rules, thisstudy was conducted on the research projects of English Education Students inPancasakti University Tegal. This case study aims to investigate the extent ofsimilarityofthestudents'researchprojectstoonlinesourcespriortothecompulsoryTurnitin check by the University and to discover what types of plagiarism foundtherein. The population of this study is 59 students of English Education ProgramoftheUniversityintheAcademicYearof2018/2019.However,duetothelimitation of the research, only five research projects were chosen as the sample.The data of the research were taken by using the aid of Turnitin. For analyzing thedata,thetechniqueofcontentanalysiswasemployed.Thesimilarityreportgenerated by Turnitin was inspected by adopting the plagiarism detection modeloffered by Bretag and Mahmud (2009) to see the document's overall similarityindex and their highest matches to a single source. Manual Inspection was alsoconducted to discover the types of plagiarism found therein, through which thecontents of the documents were coded to several categories such as, "Anomalies","Citation"and"PossiblePlagiarism".
